10 Ways To Find Volunteers
1. Advertise…EVERYWHERE!
Let everyone know that no experience is necessary – just a heart to help! Advertise in your church bulletin, with the local schools for teachers, in your church newspaper.
2. Word of Mouth
Let the parents and church members that you talk to each week know that you are offering the wonderful opportunity – ask them if they know of others that may want to assist.
3. High school and middle school community services
High schools, these days, offer credits for community service. Middle schoolers can feel that they have a purpose and a place when serving – we just need to let them know that they are needed!
4. College prep schools
Don’t just look at area schools – many kids these days have their own transportation and are willing to drive to where excellent opportunities for their resume and experience may be.
5. Siblings of children with special needs
A great opportunity to step out of their homes and learn to appreciate others. These siblings often have a true heart for serving.
6. Grandparents (Aunts/Uncles/Godparents) of the children with special needs
Excellent bonding time with assistance.
7. Seniors
A truly untapped wealth of volunteers. When advertising, gear your adds towards seniors or contact your local senior citizen center.
8. Individual contacts
Many people respond to an individual request to assist rather than an advertisement. Don’t forget to contact and request assistance from Elders, Deacons, and those who have a heart for serving but just haven’t found their niche yet, this may be the opportunity they have been waiting for – with just a phone call from you!
9. College interns
Whether they are interested in assisting for their resume or just for the experience, college-aged kids are responsible and able to handle even the toughest situations.
10. Community services
Each community has services available that may already do a lot of training and preparing of teen assistants, find out if the teens that have already shown themselves to be responsible are available on Sundays.
