Key Ministry is familiar with several outstanding ministries that offer high quality respite care through churches or church-affiliated facilities throughout the U.S. Each organization listed provides training and ongoing support for the churches operating under their banner. Please follow the links associated with each organization to identify and register for respite events through a church in your home area.

Buddy Break – the respite ministry of Nathaniel’s Hope: Buddy Break is a FREE Parents’ Day Out/respite program where kids with all types of special needs (VIP kids) have FUN while their parents get a BREAK. At Buddy Break, VIP kids and their siblings make new friends, play games, do crafts, hear children’s stories, enjoy music, and more! Meanwhile, parents get a break from their ongoing care-giving responsibilities, usually for three hours on a Friday night or Saturday morning.

rEcess – the respite network of 99 Balloons: rEcess is a holistic model of ministry that serves the entire family experiencing disability through a monthly respite night.

rEcess is for parents—we know your life is full of unique joys and challenges. rEcess is a break for you is an opportunity for you to rest and reconnect with a significant other, have some “me” time, or finish grocery shopping in under 3 hours. It is yours to use however you like with the knowledge that your children are being well cared for and are safe.

rEcess is for children experiencing disability. We have one core objective. FUN! No therapy, no doctors or paid caregivers. Children experiencing disability are paired one on one with an adult friend whose sole objective is to make rEcess the best night of their week.

rEcess is for siblings. Siblings are often forgotten on the spectrum of family care–not at rEcess. rEcess is also a break for our siblings to have lots of fun and connect with other siblings who understand what it is like to have a brother or sister experiencing disability. We have dedicated sibling volunteers and programming just for rEcess sibs.

Jill’s House: Jill’s House is a Christian non-profit that provides short-term, overnight respite care for families raising kids ages 6-17 with intellectual disabilities in the DC metro area, and around the country. Parents regularly receive 24-48 hours to rest and recharge, while their kids are engaged in fun activities, tailored to their interests and abilities.
